Description | I am physicist working in the field of oceanography and more specifically and from more than 10 years in the field of 'underwater acoustic'. After studying the 'construction underwater sound' generated by pile driving used for the implementation of wind turbine in our zone of the North Sea, i did evaluate the efficiency of the noise reducing methods used in our domain dominated by strong tidal current(Frame of the National monitoring project MONWIN). 'Operational sound' generated by renewable at sea was started with the MARVEN EU project and is still running today within the project APELAFICO from the Dutch government. Aside of that, ambient noise bathing our zone off the North Sea was investigated under the EU INTERREG Project JOMOPANS. My work extends from the data gathering to the publication of the results including data treatment and data handling. Description | The main task of the ITAW in the field of wildlife biology and health is basic and monitoring research, as well as applied research. Research focuses on wildlife diseases, especially infectious diseases and zoonoses. Here it is considered how infectious diseases in wild animals spread as a result of climate change and how these can endanger humans as a reservoir. Equally important is habitat use, bioacoustics, auditory research, behavioral research, nutrition, reproduction, immunology, wildlife management and the ecology of wildlife in connection with nature conservation issues. The aim is to research the biology and ecology of wild animals in the context of the impact of anthropogenic activities on the animals. A major part of ITAW's research, both terrestrial and aquatic, focuses on the impact of human activities on the health and survival of wildlife populations. For example, shipping, road construction, the use of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, waste, construction on water and land, agriculture and fisheries, as well as tourism and military activities are considered. |
Project Description | The broad objective of this project is to determine the response of baleen whales to a typical MV signal in terms of the variables affecting the response, such as the received sound level, relative movements of whales and distance between them, behavioural state and social context of preceding whale behaviour, and environmental variables. |
